Nanaimo Women’s League 2021

Welcome to the Nanaimo Disc Golf Club (NDGC) Women’s League 2021!

This is a new league! We formed in July 2020 with an introductory summer series and have since been working toward establishing a regular league in Nanaimo for women. All women are welcome to join in anytime so invite your female friends.

Either play for fun and casually, or play competitively. Keep score or not. You don’t need to be at a certain level to fit in; we all know there is always room to improve one’s own game and it doesn’t happen overnight.

Drop-in Thursdays in July…6pm tee off, Hole 1 start. No fee to play. (August will be random rounds posted on our group page, then back to regular events in the fall)

Cards will be determined based on the number of participants and random flipout. A schedule will be posted each month and there will be other ongoing opportunities for clinics/events/random prizes/rounds at other courses.

There’s a Facebook group for anyone who would like to connect and keep in the loop: “Nanaimo Women’s Disc Golf”.

We are also part of a wider community of female disc golfers around the island…. “Island Ladies Disc Golf” and encourage you to join that Facebook group as well, led by the one & only Kristy Lee! So many inspiring, encouraging, supportive women all over…we hope you will join in. Looking forward to seeing you on the course!

Monday Blues is back!

Starting July. 12 @ 7pm

MONDAY BLUES has returned…

All members are encouraged to come out and have some fun playing from the shorter blue tee pads at Bowen Park.

How it works: Teams will be randomly chosen via flipping a disc at the beginning. 4 players to a card. Shotgun start at  Blue Tee Pad, and play the course in a numerical order.

Location: Meet at Lower Parking Lot. We recommend you do not park close to the curb as your vehicle may be in throwing range. NDGC IS NOT RESPONSIBLE FOR ANY DAMAGES TO ANY VEHICLE.

Cost: 3$ to play with 2$ going towards Acepot (if someone hits a hole in one) and 1$ going to the NDGC.

If a 2nd, 3rd, 4th person hits an ace in the same night, the pot will be split accordingly.

The Acepot is starting @ $50 courtesy of Trilogy Paracord!

NDGC 2021 Bag-Tags are in effect. When you show up and play, there will be two jars: one for your 2021 bag tag and the other for the money (exact change only please). We will determine the lowest score after every card has finished the round. Scores will be kept following the honour system. Lowest score will take the lowest tag and so on.

If you have any questions, feel free to email me or message me on Facebook and I’ll answer any questions you may have.

President of the NDGC

Bowen Park – Week of June 7-11th

Hello disc golfers!
For the week of June 7 to 11 the entrance will be closed off to allow the City of Nanaimo renovations to be completed. It will be reopened for the weekend by end of day Friday.
While this is taking place, all access to the Disc Golf Course, Bowen Centre, and Kin Pool will be from Wall Street. Signage will be installed  by the City at both entrances to inform patrons of the change. With this arrangement there is a bit of a pinch point in front of the Kin Pool with two way traffic and the patrons/public moving in and around the pool/playground. There will be a traffic control flagger on site each day next week to ensure this area is being managed safely with the traffic pattern changes.
We recommend to park down by the volleyball courts and start at Hole 10.

Closure: Hole 8 White

Attention Disc Golfers
Re: Bowen Park Hole 8
Effective immediately Hole 8 White Pad is closed due to safety. Please throw from the blue pad even when playing whites.
IF THERE ARE VOLLEYBALL PLAYERS PLEASE YELL “FORE” WAY IN ADVANCED WHEN PLAYING 7 WHITE OR 7 BLUE.
The NDGC, City of Nanaimo, & Volleyball Representatives are currently in discussion on the safety concerns for all.
Signage will be posted very soon.
Please educate all persons playing Bowen Park.

NDGC Drive to 100

February is “NDGC Drive to 100” Month. To entice players of all ages and abilities to sign up, we are offering up a rare 2021 Japan Open Firebird. To be eligible for the random draw for this disc on March 1, you need to be a fully registered member of NDGC by 11:59 p.m. on February 28.

Current club membership sits at 78. We have 22 tags left from our first batch. We will order more as necessary. We’ve never had more than 70 members in the club. This is amazing this early in the year! Membership runs from January-December annually.

To get your NDGC membership, email the following information to [email protected] plus an etransfer for $30:
name, birthdate (mm/dd/yy), phone, email, address, PDGA # if you are a member and whether you are a member of BCDS (yes/no). Once we have received your $$ and info, we will arrange to get you your 2021 bag tag.

Currently, the club is working hard with the City of Nanaimo to develop more and better disc golf facilities. They are well aware of the explosive growth of the sport, the need to expand facilities and the benefits of disc golf in city parks. A redevelopment of Bowen Park is into the final planning stages. The City also has a few other parcels of land that are being considered for course development.

Showing growth in numbers is one way to help promote these initiatives. Spread the word. Let’s get to 100 members and beyond! Thanks for your support. See you on the course!
